And now, for some distinctions and differences:
("Hazrat" is an honorific; "Pir-o-Murshid" is an esoteric title.)
Inayati Order: Hazrat Inayat Khan initiated his California disciple Murshid Samuel Lewis, (Sufi Ahmed Murad Chisti) in the early 1920’s.
Murshid SAM dedicated his life to the Path of the Bodhisattva, awakening for the benefit of all sentient beings. Over time he was recognized as a Sufi Master, Zen Master, Hindu Master, with mastery in the Christian and Jewish mysteries, and in the natural sciences.
In the late 1960's, he began training young students first under the banner of Zen and then Sufi. Just before his passing in 1971, he formed an organization to further the lineage which is now known as the Sufi Ruhaniat International lead by Pir
The Inayati Order
has as its purpose to spread the Message of Unity and promote the awakening of humanity to the divinity in all, as taught by Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan, Pir Vilayat Inayat-Khan, and Pir Zia Inayat-Khan.
They continue this line of guidance for the evolving world, bridging and integrating the different forms of knowledge in the light of an awakened vision of the fulfillment of God’s purpose for creation.
In our time the realization of the mystic incorporates the dimension of a collective awakening. The total being that we are is experiencing a new step in the evolution of life on the planet.
In 2002 Pir Zia founded the Suluk Academy, a school of Sufi studies that provides sincere seekers the opportunity to experience the fundamental practices and wisdom of the Sufi tradition, especially as expressed through the teaching of Hazrat Inayat Khan. This core training is open to initiates of the Hazrati (Inayati) Sufi Orders including the Inayati Order, the Ruhaniat International, The Sufi Movement International, the Sufi Way, the Sufi Contact, and the Sufi Path.
Hidayat Inayat Khan is the younger son of Hazrat Inayat Khan, and is the current head of the International Sufi Movement. Hidayat works tirelessly for the Sufi Movement, The Federation of the Sufi Message, and to get the many teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan in the main Archives out to all of the various “Inayati” Orders (the many Sufi Orders that flow from the transmission of Hazrat Inayat Khan.)
He and his wife, Aziza, are the "Godparents" of the Ruhaniat DHO.
